#1 If you are interested in dating someone outside of your race, make sure it is for the right reason. Do not date them because of gossip and/or sexual curiosity, but because you are interested in them and would like to be with someone that may have a different perspective on life; which, may have a positive effect on yours. Dating someone of a different race is not a life-changing event! You may discover some differences in that person compare to what you are use to but you will also observe many similarities.
#2 Prepare yourself for narrow-minded individuals. Some people are not comfortable with seeing a mixed race couple, therefore prepare to receive stares, gossip and unnecessary judgments. However, do not allow the ignorance of their judgments or pressure from your surroundings to steer you away from that individual and/or relationship.
#3 Remove all stereotypical views. Approaching someone outside of your race is not that different from approaching someone within your race; therefore, do not approach with assumptions or behave in a manner that you believe is acceptable to that individual.
#4 Be yourself! Do not appear to be someone that you are not because it will eventually catch up to you. It may also cause miscommunications and/or a downfall between the two of you in the near future. Remember that if someone seems interested in you, it is because they want to get to know who you are not who you pretend to be.
#5 Whatever you do, do not focus on their race but rather on the person as an individual. If you place your focus on their race and on how different the two of you are, you will definitely miss the opportunity to get to know them.
BONUS Tip: Do not date outside of your race because of bad experiences within your own.
